Job Overview

The Director, Learning Experience Design is responsible for leading the development, design, and revision of content for Lexia Learning’s professional learning products. This position manages a small team of Learning Experience Designers and curriculum team members who work directly with content authors, subject matter experts, project managers, and content managers to ensure content meets standards and provides an effective learning experience.

The Director, Learning Experience Design will work as an integral part of the content development process and be accountable for the design, development, and evaluation of online courses and learning experiences as well as in-person and live online professional development training and coaching experiences for educators and administrators. This person will be versed in adult learning theories and be able to conceptualize instructionally sound, interactive, engaging course components that align with the capabilities of the online learning platform.

Job Responsibilities

  • Guides and manages the learning experience design process for new and revised materials and learning experiences and assures that materials adhere to content and platform standards
  • Collaborates with curriculum team and/or subject matter experts in the development of engaging and objective-driven products that focus on relevant learning experiences using a variety of modalities, methods, and tools
  • Applies adult learning theory and design thinking to design, develop, pilot and deliver engaging and effective learning experiences utilizing a variety of modalities, methods, and tools
  • Aligns content to industry standards to ensure consistency and effectiveness of design
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews on product materials and implements revisions as needed
  • Reviews existing products for quality, currency, and consistency and works with cross-functional teams to enhance designs as needed
  • Tests and implements agreed-upon emerging technologies in products and learning experiences
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the latest trends, best practices, and methods as they relate to digital learning and design and adult learning theories
  • Integrates appropriate instructional strategies based on content type, learner attributes, delivery platforms, and business needs
  • Works with established research and data analytics teams to define product-embedded needs and adjustments
  • Works with data and assessment teams to apply a variety of accountability and assessment techniques to monitor learner progress and engagement in the virtual learning environment, ensuring optimal learning outcomes
  • Meets with customers to listen to and conduct needs analyses
  • Develops detailed learning experience design roadmaps which include key activities, timelines, and resource requirements needed to achieve goals
  • Maintains documentation and process workflows as needed
  • Manages and sets priorities for team of learning experience designers and curriculum team members
  • Guides direct reports through their professional development and advocates for growth opportunities

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in learning experience design with experience in designing authentic learning experiences. Experience in education is preferred.
  • Experience developing content for adult learners
  • Ability to work collaboratively with content authors and other stakeholders to deliver effective online courses and professional learning sessions
  • Ability to articulate rationale for learning approaches based on sound learning science, adult learning principles, and web accessibility standards
  • Application of project management knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to support projects from initiation to project delivery
  • Effective utilization of design models such as ADDIE, SAM, and design thinking
  • Experience with HTML and CSS highly preferred
  • Experience using JIRA as a project tracking tool preferred
  • Ability to be a self-starter and identify problems, evaluate options, and implement and initiate solutions
  • Proven people management skills and experience managing a team preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree, or relevant work experience, required
